Mogadishu

Mogadishu’s 15 years of anarchy took a heavy toll on the city’s former business district, but a mini building boom is now under way.

Vinos: 2005 La Posta del Viñatero Malbec

2005 La Posta del Viñatero Malbec 'Angel Paulucci Vineyard'
S. Irene Virbila

September 6, 2006

The name La Posta del Viñatero means "tavern of the grape grower." Though the Paulucci family's history with winemaking goes back to the early 1800s in Italy, the family has lived in Argentina only since 1953, when Angel Paulucci was 21. Seven years later, he planted his first Malbec in the Mendoza region.

This wine is made from a special block of vines planted in 1970 in Ugarteche that produces a deep ruby red wine, dark in tone, with a taste that's reminiscent of Cabernet Franc. Think juicy red berries with a pinch of spice and a light note of oak. Full-bodied, this is a wine that needs food — steaks, chops, ribs, gutsy cheeses.

Did I mention that it has a very attractive price-to-quality ratio?
